Bright lights and quiet nights,
You'd think everyone would sleep soundly right?
But behind the quiet is solitude and
behind the lights is a dark magnitude
of uncertainty.
A snowman. Made. Rolled into place by a mom and daughter
Laughter and play, a sweet moment of folly not to be forgotten.
Where was I going with this?
I don't know.
Sometimes words lend an assist as friend or foe
But I just love to watch the snow
falling. Often wishing there was someone I'd be headed home to hold.
The fridge is stocked, the heat is on and the remote is in hand as Netflix goes chun-chun.
No chill, just hours and hours of mindless distraction until the question pops up, are you done?
Was never really watching, mostly background noise and scrolling through
Nonsense and recipes and cat toys to keep them occupied.
It's okay, it's cool. Nah I'm not lonely.
It would just be really nice to have someone who only wanted to be with me in the storm.
That's not metaphorical, it's just a historical blizzard with two days of snow. It's been a long time since NY has had one of those.
Back to a point which seems nonexistent,
I realize I'm rambling, but the thought of another person in my life is persistent.
They say the universe is working for your good and wants to give you the desires of your heart.
They say you have not because you ask not, so I guess that's a good enough place to start.
Dear universe I'm asking, not stressing, just requesting a blessing
of the person who's meant to make snowmen. Whose laughter can mend anything broken.
Who lights up the darkness of a storm and holds me quietly, strongly.
As I ask for the qualities of a person I think I need, I realize this person has to be me. Indeed,
these things must be a part of who I am, not out here relying on some man or woman.
So I amend my ask from just before,
dear universe help me be all these things to myself to enjoy all the wonder that's in store.
